Perishable

Imagine, for a moment, if people were refrigerators,
And all our insides were like the insides of a refrigerator.

But instead of milk we had a carton of kindness
And instead of orange juice we had a gallon of silliness.

And our eggs were promises,
Yours to keep,
Or yours to break.

Imagine, for a moment, if people were refrigerators,
And that we could go to the grocery store and buy what we wanted to be.

We would buy honeydew for sweetness
and perhaps some pomegranate for vigor,
let's not forget a mango for exoticism.

But don't buy any lemons
for God's sake, don't but any lemons.

Imagine, for a moment, if people were refrigerators,
and imagine for a moment, if the power went out.

Imagine all the things that would go bad,
Imagine how we'd all rot on the inside.

Now remember that people aren't refrigerators,
and remember what happens

when the light goes out.
